Marrick Fly Away Bug Spray Review 2020 | Zero-waste, Sustainable, All-Natural Bug Spray

Marrick Fly Away Bug Spray Review 2020 | Zero-waste, Sustainable, All-Natural Bug Spray

The Top Line: It’s a BUY. Ok Marrick’s Fly Away Bug Spray is not cheap, but it smells oh so nice and chemical-free and DEET-free. We found ourselves spraying more on just because we loved the scent so much! And it works - we spent an afternoon in a mosquito-ridden garden and emerged unscathed (zero bites!). A rarity as mosquitoes love me!

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $14.00 for 4oz

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? No chemicals and DEET-free, made from essential oils. However, the packaging has some plastic in it as it is a spray bottle.

  • Packaging: It comes in an aluminum spray bottle, but there is some plastic involved. We’re not sure if its possible to remove plastic completely.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We purchased it at Farm+Table, a small shop in Kennebunkport, Maine, but you can also purchase from the Marrick website.

  • What’s Your Impact? We will go through a couple bottles a year of bug spray as mosquitoes LOVE me. We like that this is made of natural ingredients / essential oils, with absolutely no chemicals in it.

The Experience

Context: We are mosquito-attracting — the first to get bit in any situation! we have tried so many bug repellents over the years, and run through a bottle of these pretty quickly.

  • The smell is heavenly, we might actively use this more because it smells so nice!

  • No concerns about chemicals or feeling as through we needed to wash it off as soon as we were indoors/away from mosquitoes

  • We sat in a mosquito-ridden garden for an afternoon with Marrick’s Fly Away bug repellent all over us, zero bites!

The Cost

We compared Marrick’s Fly Away Bug Spray with a few other natural bug repellent brands (Nantucket Spider, Badger, Skeem Design and Shabby Chick) — along with good old-fashioned OFF! for good measure.

Money Report: Marrick’s Fly Away Bug Repellent sure isn’t the most affordable, measuring up at 2X the cost of another popular natural bug repellent brand — Nantucket Spider.

The Good:

Smells incredible! We cover ourselves with bug spray, and this stuff actually smells nice!

It works! We sat in a mosquito-ridden garden for an afternoon with Marrick’s Fly Away bug repellent all over us, zero bites!

DEET-free and chemical free

The Bad:

There is some plastic in the packaging (we’re not sure if that can be avoided)

It’s pretty pricey!

Our Recommendation: It’s a BUY. Ok Marrick’s Fly Away Bug Spray is not cheap, but it smells oh so nice. We found ourselves spraying more on just because we loved the scent so much! And it works - we spent an afternoon in a mosquito-ridden garden and emerged unscathed (zero bites!). A rarity as mosquitoes love me!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
