Fig1 Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes Review 2024 | Eco-friendly, plant-derived retinol alternative

Fig1 Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes Review 2024 | Eco-friendly, plant-derived retinol alternative

The Top Line: It’s a BUY. Fig1’s Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes are one of the cooler products we have trialed — and while a little on the pricey side, we love it for travel and we have used 1 wipe over a few washes. An oil cleanser that turns into a milky cleanser, infused with squalane and grapeseed oil that feels protective of the skin barrier. The wipe itself breaks down (and biodegrades within 14 days), while the individual packets are made from wood pulp that is home compost safe. We are so impressed by the lengths at which Fig1 has made this product cleaner for the environment!

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: Box of 14 packets for $22.00.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Natural oils and ingredients, very sustainable packaging (despite it being individually wrapped). Pretty clean!

  • Packaging: The wipe itself breaks down (and biodegrades within 14 days), while the individual packets are made from wood pulp that is home compostable. The box is made of recycled cardboard.

  • Good to know: This product is great for travel, as it comes in individual compostable packets

The Experience

Context: For the last couple of years, we’ve experienced much dryer skin — could be because we had our first child, could also be that we moved and the HVAC system is doing a number on our skin. We have started using a oil cleanser, and Fig1’s Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes piqued our interest as it looked to be a great option for travel (and we travel for work quite frequently)!

  • I found Fig1’s Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes to be incredibly soothing, an oil to milky cleanser that really breaks down my make-up without stripping my skin

  • The wipes break down as you use it, and it much larger than you need in 1 wash — we usually end up using 1 wipe over 2-3 washes

  • No added fragrances (which we prefer)

  • We LOVE that a lot of thought have been put into the packaging to ensure it is either compostable or recyclable — we are usually put off by travel sized products bc of the wasteful packaging

Overall, very happy with the experience!

The Cost

We compared Fig1’s Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes with with other facial cleansing wipes, oil based and otherwise, from Yes to Miracle, Neutrogena, Ursa Major, Dermatologica, OGEE and more. Fig1’s Micellar Oil Cleansing Wipes are the most expensive option, but if you are to stretch the use of each wipe over multiple washes, it is much more manageable.

The Good:

Oil cleanser that really breaks down make-up, sunscreen, etc.

No added fragrances

Made with natural ingredients including Grapeseed Oil, Squalane, Primrose Oil and Meadowfoam Seed Oil

Lightweight formula (many facial oils that we have tried are too greasy)

✔ Sustainable packaging — wipe biodegrades within 14 days, packets are compostable, and boxes are made from recycled cardboard

✔ Vegan, Gluten Free, Cruelty Free

The Bad:

A bit on pricier side, but we were able to stretch 1 wipe over a few washes!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
