EC30 Surface Cleaner | Zero Waste, Biodegradable All-Purpose Cleaner Review 2020

EC30 Surface Cleaner | Zero Waste, Biodegradable All-Purpose Cleaner Review 2020

The Top Line: Mixed. Overall, of all the products we tried in the EC30 Home Care bundle, the all-purpose surface cleaner is the most affordable. Overall we loved the product and experience, but a bit baffled by the fact that we need to dispose of the unused solution after 48 hours - seems like a waste!

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $19.00 for 30 swatches.

  • Packaging: Compostable packaging, plastic free.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Easy DTC purchasing process, no complaints!

  • Good to know: They have a lot of trial kits / bundles — we purchased the Home Care Trial Kit. Worth noting, the all-purpose cleaner is meant to be disposed of within 48 hours — we’re not sure why?!

  • Extra Info: For those that are sensitive to scents, please note that the scent is fairly strong. But we liked it!

  • What’s Your Impact? No plastic, compostable packaging, and no liquids (which means lighter shipping, less carbon footprint). We like!

The Experience

Context: We currently use Blueland’s all-purpose cleaner, as well as Meliora’s All-Purpose Home Cleaner, both are zero-waste, refillable options that have been working pretty well for us!

  • We love the scent of EC30’s products (though some people may think it’s too strong of a scent)

  • The foaming action of the “magic swatch” … very enjoyable and soothing to watch.

  • We are instructed to dispose of unused solution after 48 hours — this is disappointing as sometimes (often?) you might just want to do a quick clean and may not use all 4oz that each swatch makes in cleaning solution.

The Cost

We compared the cost of EC30’s all-purpose surface cleaner with some of the other brands we have tried: Veles, Blueland, Cleancult, and more:

Money Report: While most of EC30’s products we have tried are SUPER expensive, the all-purpose surface cleaner is actually much more reasonable compared to other options.

The Good:

Pre-measured swatches reduce overuse of soap (which most people are guilty of)

Zero waste packaging and product

Great clean scent (not light though for those that don’t like scent)!

Cute packaging — we like the tiny washing machine icon on the laundry pack!

Could be a nice travel product. … if you want to clean the whole AirBnB

The Bad:

Scent might be too strong for some people.

We are instructed to dispose of unused solution after 48 hours — this is disappointing as sometimes you might just want to do a quick clean and may not use all 4oz that each swatch makes in cleaning solution.

Our Recommendation: Mixed. Overall, of all the products we tried in the EC30 Home Care bundle, the all-purpose surface cleaner is the most affordable. Overall we loved the product and experience, but a bit baffled by the fact that we need to dispose of the unused solution after 48 hours - seems like a waste! Have we mentioned this already?

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
